You can call me... Lauren.

I identify as... queer, female, and gender-nonconforming.

My preferred gender pronouns are... she, her, hers.

The thing about gender identity is... everyone has one.  And there's a huge spectrum, just like with anything else.  And, if you think about it, what a beautiful thing that is.

I like to... write.  Make theater.  Make art.  Foster connections between people.  Try to make the world a little bit of a better place. Sign.  Rock climb.  Hike.  Zone out.  Learn how to do handstands, and trapeze. Read.  (Though I never read as much as I wish I were reading.)  See theater, dance, visual art; attend orchestral concerts and opera; observe and absorb the arts. Travel.  Eat.  Frequent farmers markets. Learn.  Hug.

I want people to understand... and respect and appreciate the diversity in the spectrum of gender identities.  I want people in the mainstream to understand that they, too, have a gender identity, and that theirs is no different from the gender identities of those not in the mainstream.  Brown eyes are more mainstream too, but that doesn't mean that blue- and green-eyed folks don't have valid eye colors.  And even "brown" is an oversimplification.  "Brown" really means some folks' eyes are hazel, and some are chestnut, and some are chocolate, etc...  and even THOSE are simplifications.  Point is, there's a spectrum, and some are more mainstream, and some are less, and it's all okay.  And it's all natural. There's nothing weird or freakish about it.  It's just a spectrum.

To me, equality means... a favored nations clause:  No one person has rights to something that another person doesn't also have rights to.  A right is a right for everyone. It also means that all voices are heard at equal volume, and everyone has a voice, and every voice is heard. So, I guess equality to me means equal rights and equal voices. And equal safety.
