ctEQUALITY
was launched in 2010 by the Anti-Discrimination Coalition, a dynamic network of organizations in Connecticut that have lead the effort to expand our state's non-discrimination law to include gender identity and gender expression. ctEQUALITY is a project that aims to strengthen our transgender and ally communities as we work towards better, more inclusive non-discrimination law.
In 2004, as the CT Anti-Discrimination Coalition, we led the effort to make sure that CT hate crimes law included gender identity and gender expression protections.
Then, in 2011, we helped to pass an even more transgender inclusive law in CT-- HB 6599: An Act Concerning Discrimination. ctEQUALITY, along with CT TransAdvocacy Coalition, CT Women’s Education and Legal Fund and other likeminded organizations, passed a bill to ensure that the phrase gender identity or expression is included in our state’s non-discrimination law. This bill now prohibits discrimination in housing, employment, lending, and public accommodations based on gender identity or expression.
But our work doesn't stop here.
We are looking for leaders to get involved in all of our work, from planning social events that help build community, to recruiting members who will support our efforts.
There are opportunities for all kinds of involvement.
